I would avoid gatherings of people as much as possible until this is under control. Public transport of any type such as being on a plane is one of the worst types of gatherings - you are in a confined space - one cough and everyone gets it. Now is the time for caution - not being panicky. I am scared as well, but you must chanel that into positive action such as avoiding risky activities. The great news is medical science is working at a breakneck pace to bring this under control. Have faith is modern science and take some common sense measures until this is under control and you will be fine. Thanks Bill

Although swine flu and traveling could possibly be risky I would not pass up the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. With that said, there really isn't anything you can do to completely keep yourself protected from swine flu, aside from traveling in a bubble. You can be worried and scared, but I think it would be more appropriate to be cautious. If you are going to be traveling in and around public facilities (airport, attractions, etc.) I would definitely be proactive and continue to practice basic hygiene (wash after the bathroom, etc.)

It has been debated whether or not medical masks actually help, but it doesn't hurt to use them, but since you're in 8th grade I can imagine you would have disdain to wear one. However, all the officials seem to agree that washing your hands very frequently is the best thing you can do, so carrying hand sanitizer or hand wipes with you is definitely beneficial. If you start to feel even a little bit sick go to a doctor or tell a teacher. Major symptoms include fever, extreme fatigue, and aching pains throughout the entire body. Good luck and have fun!

Laboratory testing showed the new virus was treatable by the anti-flu drugs Tamiflu and Relenza, and the first shipments from a federal stockpile arrived Wednesday in New York City and several other locations. The government was shipping to states enough medication to treat 11 million people as a precaution. All states should get their share by May 3. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Swine-flu-hits-home-in-US-now-apf-15077625.html?sec=topStories&pos=3&asset=&ccode=
