The best ever airplane movie ever made--including war movies

The best ever airplane movie ever made--including war movies.?
What's yours? I like all of the following: 1. Island in the Sky (John Wayne) 2. Tora! Tora! Tora! 3. Battle of Britain 4. Airport 5. Flight of the Phoenix (the one with Jimmy Stewart, please) 6. Wings (1927 silent) 7. I wanted Wings 8. Airport (the original movie, please) 9. The War Lover 10. Memphis Belle (both the original documentary and the rather hokey 1980s fiction film--saved by the beautiful aerial shots of the magnificent B-17.) And, my all-time favorite, 12 O'Clock High, starring Gregory Peck. Okay, most of these are war movies, but what the heck. Nice looking airplanes lend a little class to what would otherwise be a disorganized brawl. What are your favorites? (They don't have to be war movies, and they can involve anything.) (Surely you can't be serious.) (I AM serious, and don't call me Shirley...) If you liked Pearl Harbor do yourself a favor and watch Tora! Tora! Tora! United 93 was superb. Some of the best flying movies made were the old movies, done back when computer animation just didn't exist. These movies generally used actual airplanes in the flying scenes. One of the merits of the Aviator was the depiction of Howard Hughes' filming of "Hell's Angels." I give the movie high marks for this along with the depiction of the experimental airplane that nearly killed Howard Hughes. The "Spruce Goose" footage in the movie--I believe--is actual footage of the airplane's only flight. Top Gun was pretty good, especially the flight sequences. The Naval Aviation types should have loved it. (It even helped Air Force recruiting.) dlaszacs, I like the way you think! Some good picks here. And some good flicks. I DEFINITELY liked Fly Boys. The Flying Leathernecks!! Good photo sequences with both the Hellcat and Corsair!! Great movie. Lots of votes for Airplane, which was really more of a comedy than a true airplane movie. But I enjoyed it too. Thank you, Tin Can Sailor, for adding "The High and the Mighty," "The Bridges at Toko-Ri," and "Flight of the Intruder." I am also a huge fan of "Victory at Sea." Anybody remember "The Great Waldo Pepper?" Great barnstorming scenes and one of the best biplane dogfights ever filmed.

I don't watch many but I really like Executive Decision. Probably not the most realistic movie but very suspenseful to see the team working in such tight quarters and constantly trying to stay out of sight Of course Airplane is my favorite (little white girl: I like my coffee black, like my men)

Well you managed to name every one of the movies I like even my favorite, "12 O'clock High" I have watched that film a bunch of times a year for years. Last time about two weeks ago. Other people have also added some really good ones. I have been sitting here racking my brain trying to think of some others to justify my answering. Here a few that were pretty good. "Wing and a Prayer" "The Blue Max" "The High and the Mighty" "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines" Saw this one the first time when it released in the70mm version. "The Wings of Eagles" "Flight of the Intruder" Another favorite of mine. The TV series "Victory at Sea" has some episodes with great aircraft action, especially the pacific war. There a couple that were were not about an airplane but a plane played a big part in the movie. "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" "Fail-Safe" All I can think of now.

1st time flying abroad with 15 mt old baby any advice

1st time flying abroad with 15 mt old baby any advice?
im flying friday to memphis from uk. its my 1st time and i feel sick with nerves. im taking dd with me who is 15 months. any advice please how to keep her happy can i take her baby milk aboard? will there be somewhere she can comfortably nap. the 1st flight is 8 hrs 2nd is around 2 hrs. i keep thinking airports must be huge scary places (flying from heathrow) every imaginable worry keeps going through my head its sending me crazy. i know once im there i will feel more settled but just the thought of going so far away is making me feel homesick (never been more than 200 miles away before). im having to leave hubby and 3 of my grown up kids behind for financial reasons and they seem real cool about it but it sounds crazy but i already miss them. please any travel advice from other 1st time flyers who flew with young kids would be great

they will allow u to have a nice seat in the front with the baby.. and dont worry the baby wont feel a thing they will prolly njoy looking out the window and njoying how the plane moves have a nice trip!!

The only place for her to sleep will most probably be on your lap. There are some seats where you can put a baby seat, but it's not guaranteed you'll get one. Yes you can take her milk onboard, you'll have to taste it at security to prove it's safe (actually tasting it proves nothing. If you were about to blow up the plane and die anyway, you'd happily taste explosive) Feed her on takeoff and landing to help her adjust to the change in pressure. Take favourite toys, but not ones that make a noise (rattle/squeak/beep) Make sure to keep yourself to yourself - don't drape yourself and the baby all over the poor passenger next to you. And definitely don't expect them to help you with the baby (...it's happened to me, a woman just put the baby on my lap and said "hold her while I get a drink out"....baby got put back on her seat immediately) As the baby is on milk, why not leave her at home instead of subjecting her to this journey. Or wait until you can afford to have your husband travel with you for help.

The one flaw that may be in your plans is the transfer to your second flight. depending on your timing and the airports. The timing of flights is so close sometimes you have to literally run off one plane, run through the airport, check in and run to the departure gate, I have missed planes twice before by only 5 minutes resulting in half a day waiting around for the next flight. You could not do that with a baby with you so make sure you have at least 2 1/2 hours between flights to allow for minor delays and getting lost in the Airport. That will give you 1/2 hour to get off plane, get through customs, 1/2 hour walk through airport check in for 2nd flight, 1/2 hour to get to departure gate half an hour before departure, this will give you 1/2 hour spare. There are delays through bad weather a lot from Florida to Tenessee so be prepared for a possible unexpected overnight stay. My 2yr old always falls asleep after 1/2 hour so you will not have problems there. I would also recommend that on the 1st leg you get up and walk around the cabin for 5 minutes once every 2 hours and stnd near the toilets for a stretch, (helps circulation and fatigue). Get friendly with the people in adjacent seats all around you as soon as you get on, introduce yourselves as they can help with baby when you go to loo etc Get to Heathrow early and specifically ask for a better seat, they will not put you in the emergency exit area where there is more legroom but there are other seats that they can put you. Good luck

I'm a former Flight Attendant and I spent 10 years working transatlantic flights, 6 years at Heathrow Airport. Then I had my own children and now I fly with the three of them between continental Europe and California about twice a year, plus other flights in between, mostly alone... It's normal to be a little nervous, especially the first time but the vast majority of parents I saw did fine with their little ones. If you're prepared, it should go smoothly. Toddlers can be tricky because they're so active and can't be reasoned with in the same way as older children. (i.e. "Take your seat now and later you can get up and walk the aisles...") I do recommend that she have her own seat and that you bring her carseat along. Try to get an extra seat next to you if the flight isn't full. This is not only safer for her but much more comfortable for both of you. This is the only way to fly securely with any baby. Lap children are allowed because statistically, flying is so safe, there's very little chance of anything going wrong. If it does though, a lap child has no protection. If you are flying a U.S. company, check that your seat is FAA approved; http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/crs/ If it's a British company, check your airlines' website for more details as it can vary in that country. Since you haven't booked a seat for her, call the airline and see if the flight is full. Then, at check in, ask nicely if you can have an empty seat next to you to place your carseat in. They often do this for families. Ask even if you can't take the seat just for comfort and room. To get through the airport, they sell all sorts of gizmos like these; http://www.gogobabyz.com/products/gogo_kids.html http://www.amazon.com/Traveling-Toddler-Attach-Rolling-Carry/dp/B000JHN3AS http://www.onestepahead.com/product/osa/363756.html I simply use a small metal luggage cart with an extra bungee cord and it works great. I skip on the stroller and she can even ride in it (and she's 3 1/2). She usually prefers to walk and then I load the carry-ons abord. Besides, taking your car seat onboard virtually guarentees that it'll be there at your destination. Checking them risks damage and loss. Wont you need it when you get there? Baby milk or formula is exempt from the liquid restrictions in both the U.K. and U.S. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm You are allowed a "reasonable amount" and simply show it to the security people when you go through. You don't have to put the formula or the bottles in a bag as is required for other liquids. I really recommend using the bottles with plastic liners. Traditional bottles are too difficult to wash onboard because of the kind of sinks on airplanes. I premeasured the powder and rolled them up, placing the rolls in a ziplock bag. Then you throw the liners away as you use them and only have the ring and nipple to clean. Even better is if she can take a sippy cup before leaving so you wont have to deal with bottles. But the liner bottles are pretty common in the U.K. and several brands are available. If you use bottled water, be sure to give yourself enough time to buy some once you're past security. Parents are supposed to be able to take bottled water for their children through security but there are complaints that it is still being taken away (and with security, you don't have much recourse). Make sure you have enough. The water on the aircraft is filtered tap so decide if you're comfortable using that for your baby. At 15 months, she should be fine but talk to your doctor is unsure. Bottled water runs out fast on flights and we never had any extra for babies. Be sure she does not need the bottle warmed. Get her used to a room-temperature bottle before leaving. This is unnecessary health-wise and a real pain to do while travelling. I warmed many bottles on my flights but I wasn't there in the check-in line, the security line or the waiting area! Babies do great with room-temperature bottles. For entertainment, get her a new toy, anything and it doesn't have to be expensive. Keep it and give it to her once you're on the plane. Simple at this age works best. Stickers, coloring things, play dough, etc. Please don't bring any toy that makes even a quiet noise (toddlers love to run them again and again and again...) My son at that age liked anything with wheels. Once, I simply had a package of plastic animals. Kept him busy for ages! I actually don't recommend a portable DVD player *unless* she can watch it without sound. I doubt she'll wear the headphones at this age but try it at home if you want. Do not play a DVD player aloud on the aircraft, even softly. Either headphones or no sound. Books are good, chunky ones with flaps toddlers love to open. No one will mind if you read to her. Just some other small tips; -Bring a change of clothes -Bring way more diapers than you think you'll need -Learn to change her standing up (don't try to fit her on those tiny babychangers and toddlers hate to lie down in strange places) -Get up and move around with her but keep an eye out. Those carts the F/A's use are the perfect height for hiding little ones -Bring snacks. Don't fret security. I've never had anything taken away (yes, water but not snacks) and that's the only risk. If you have something not allowed, they simply remove the item. No scenes, no speeches, no arrests! -Try to sit in a bulkhead seat so that there's no one in front of you -Bring slippers, especially if you're not in the bulkhead! -If you have a good baby carrier (a good one, not a front pack) it is still useful at this age so bring it! My sling was magic for calming my toddlers and helpful if they fell asleep before landing. For the record, I have never used any sort of medication to get my children to sleep. I've seen it work and a couple of times, it did the opposite, making the child wired on board. IF you go this route, talk to your doctor first and make sure it's something she's taken many times before. Don't give her the full dosage since all medications are stronger in the air. It's actually a myth that children need to suck on something for take-off and landing. I rarely saw it in my 13 years as a Flight Attendant and with all those flights with my own children, I have never, ever done anything special with them for take-offs and landings. I saw so many parents wake up their children unnecessarily especially during take-off, when they often fall asleep. Let her rest! ENT specialists simply recommend that the child is awake for landing; http://www.entcda.com/AAOHNSF/earsandaltitude.htm The delicate time is not during take-off or landing/touchdown but at the *top of descent*. This is usually 40 minutes to an hour before landing and everyone's ears have to reverse the pressurization. I can confirm that when I worked, if any passengers had ear problems, this was the time. Not just children either! They actualy felt *better* as we got closer to landing. The BEST way to avoid ear issues is to take your little girl to the doctor a few days before flying. My son was good at getting symptomless ear infections. The doctor will look in her ears and make sure they're clear and infection-free. Healthy ears can handle pressurization changes. For more information, about 8 years ago I wrote an article on this subject. It's based on both my personal and professional experience of flying with kids. It's totally non-commercial and other parents from around the world have contributed; http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com Just concentrate to getting everything organized and you'll do great. Being away from home is actually the same whether it's 20 or 3000 miles and they'll do fine. Good luck and have a good trip!

1.) If at all possible, buy a seat for your daughter. Here is where I talk about it's importance: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuzCyPcceRfxbsmok0f_jRPty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081016015002AASP55j&show=7#profile-info-qgIGOJQOaa 2.) Pack plenty of things to entertain your daughter. My children bring coloring books, a Doodle Pad, Leap Pads (+ booklets), & scrap paper. My daughter used to like to bring along a doodle bear & my son likes to bring along action figures. I found that a Rose Art kit is great! It has crayons, markers, coloring books & sheets, & stickers. http://www.megabrands.com/en/products/description.php?product_id=1031&brand_id=36&cat=4&age= I take the contents out of the box & place them in a travel pack. Here is my sons: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamie_hassen/2577667314/ - outside http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamie_hassen/2577681352/ - inside Let your child (I let my children start this at the age of one) pick out her own carry on bag & a few inexpensive toys that will be used only once you are on the plane. Be sure to pick out a few toys without her seeing so that she has an extra surprise when she opens his carry-on. 2.) You are allowed to take a stroller with you for your journey, and it will not count towards your checked baggage limit. All airlines differ on what kind of stroller you are allowed to take, but all allow an umbrella stroller.Check with your airline to see if they will allow a bigger one. Here is a link that talks about the procedure for gate checking your stroller: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnKvCt1q1JVJISfMQUsXcyPty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081005224258AAmgcGm&show=7#profile-info-942f313b2c81b37310c7808f5ed1d1a9aa 3.) Liquid and powder formula, milk, juice, baby food, and water are allowed in quantities over 3oz (100ml). Here is a link that will give you all the details (same rules apply for the UK): http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApaVhxxUaNiiEsDfths2ADjty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081002064751AAqUtKH&show=7#profile-info-Y3IuVmeiaa http://www.dft.gov.uk/transportforyou/airtravel/airportsecurity/requirements Bring Snacks! Just add water packets of food, cheerios, goldfish, animal crackers, dried fruit, etc. are great. You can also bring a limited amount of yogurt, cheese, puddings, etc. with you as long as they are in containers less than 3oz (100ml) http://www.dft.gov.uk/transportforyou/airtravel/airportsecurity/requirements 4.) Many parents are concerned about pressure changes in their childs ears, but honesty, I've never had problems with any of my children. In fact, not all children have a problem with pressure changes in their ears. The "popping" is what helps to equalize pressure changes in ears, so it is actually the result you want. What you do *not* want, is for them not to be able to "pop" their ears. Make sure your child has a check-up with the doctor to ensure she is healthy enough to fly. Doctors recommend that anyone is sick (such as being stuffed up or already having an earache), not take the flight. My husband and other pilots do not work if they are sick. If your child seems to have problems with equalizing pressure in her ears, here are some ways to help: For take-offs and landings (the WHOLE way up, and starting from the BEGINNING, or TOP of descent - about an hour before landing), the best ways to alleviate ear pressure are to: 1. If your child is nursing, nurse her 2. Give her something to drink (formula, milk, juice, water - it doesn't matter) 3. Give her a pacifier to suck on 4. Place hot damp towels (usually like the ones distributed to first and business class before take-off and landing to freshen up with - just ask a flight attendant for them) or paper towels that have been soaked in hot water and wrung out, at the bottom of two paper or styrofoam cups, then hold the cups over the ears 5. Gently but with some pressure, rub her neck repeatedly from the chin to the base of the neck. This will cause a swallowing motion that will relieve pressure build-up in the ears. 6. Give her something to eat. 6.) Other tips: -Keep your diaper bag well stocked with what you will need -Be sure to pack 2-3 changes of clothes for your daughter -Bring any medications that you might need for your child should she get sick or that she takes regularly. -Don't be afraid to get up and walk the aisles with your child -Keep your calm. If you get stressed out, your child can pick up on it and it will make the travel that much harder -Do NOT plan on giving your child medicine with the hopes of it making her sleep on the plane. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well. -Last but not least, if help is offered to you, take it I've been flying internationally & domestically with my children since they were each 2 months (now 8&6, 9 months and currently pregnant with #4). At least three trips a year are the children & I traveling internationally (14+ hours each way) alone. We do another 8-10 international & domestic flights a year as a family. Due to this, I have written a small article about flying with children that goes more in-depth, gives up to date security rules & regulations for the US, EU, UK, & Australia, offers tips & tricks for the travel, etc. http://www.angelfire.com/jamiehassen79/flying_children.html

Why's there still racism against black people in New Orleans

Why's there still racism against black people in New Orleans?
The racial discrimination against black people in New Orleans has a very long and relentless history. It is brutal how white people treated black people in this city, and we wonder why black people were angered during Katrina. 1) New Orleans started off as the worst of the worst centers for the slave trade in the US South. --------- Almost as much money as agriculture itself was made in New Orleans in the capturing and selling of black people. However, black people in this city overcame this and they made a life for themselves in New Orleans, and they strived to build the city together in unity with the very people who hindered them. 2) The White Southern Democrats known as the "redeemers" took control of New Orleans just when it was on the road to being an integrated city with little to no gap in income or education between races. ----------------The white Democrats resegregated the city all over again, under the pretext of "Separate But Equal" but in reality it was UNEQUAL and black people got de-educated, denied health, living, education, forced to live in the ghetto that would ultimately find itself in poverty because of immorality in the works of the racist politicians. Black people still tried to put this system behind and befriend their neighbors, ALL their neighbors, ALL racial make-ups. 3) The black people united together once again, recruited their most educated representatives, a man named Plessey, and he tested the relations and waters by simply riding in a bus next to a white brother/neighbor, and was arrested and the US Supreme Court ruled in Plessey VS. Ferguson that his brutal capture and arrest was constitutional under Separate but Equal. 4) Years and years of denied opportunities, denied equality, denied basic rights, parades of white knights and ku klux klan, ------burning of black churches, beating of their children, poverty and hunger, no justice, and then any retailiation is called "crime" as if crime is just genetic, it just somehow *magically* turned into a criminal city. 5) Finally 1960 comes around and the Civil Rights Movement is so nationwide and in the youth that New Orleans is at the pressure of the Federal level to de-segregate eventhough its own black people 117 years earlier proved desegregation was working, before it was taken away from them. After a bitter fight and a civilian revolution, New Orleans was finally desegregated. 6) In immediate response, the white pro-segregationist population FLED the city called "white flight", closing all jobs and creating a situation whereby the entire infrastructure of the city ran away with the privileged class, leaving the city in shambles and poverty, keeping the old segregation in place and the sense of unwant and neglect. 7) This still did not deter black people to revitalize New Orleans, bring back the roots of the city, the Cajun French Quarter, the tourism, Boubon street, the 'House of the Rising Sun', Blues, Jazz, all African American influenced, all without the very people who denied them everything. 8) The end result was despite the poverty, despite the relentless racism, despite EVERYTHING, New Orleans was alive on a thin thread, able to grow and barely get by, that is, unless a major hurricane should test the waters. No government state, local, or federal, or emergency management, was all too interested in helping protect the surivors of this city by modifying the levees. 9) Hurricane Katrina comes, the very same black people who were ignored, ignored one final time, left to die in flood waters, 1,000 of them killed, hundreds of thousands of them left homeless, an irresponsive emergency mgmt. 10) 4 years later, wealthy New Orleans folks from the burbs relocate to surrounding cities. They well were able to afford evacuation plans, they are re-employed in Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta, Memphis. The local inhabitants who are still living in trailers are told to shut up. They are told the hurricane is over and ALL the centuries of endless racism have ended in 2 years time. When will the racism in New Orleans and the unequal wealth conditions finally end? When??? The thing people don't account for is how much invisible hatred AND visible hatred shaped the conditions for CENTURIES that gave way to a culture of violent crime. The violent crime is simply a more conspicuous form of the "INVISIBLE immorality that denied opportunity to thrive any other way but to rob and steel and loot". Black people never were racist until they were segregated, what do you expect? The divisions were planted. The scars are irreversible.

there is racism against all peoples everywhere.

It's not just New Orleans. It happens all over the country and it will never end as long as people like the first answerer exist. Texas takes it to the next level. They're still talking about secession and fighting the civil war here.

New Orleans is the poster child to send the message to all the cities of the world not to let blacks in. The first answer has it right ;)

I thought there was a chocolate city down there. Excuses are like a$$holes, perhaps man up and address your problems like Bill Cosby suggests you do insead of blaming the action of ppl 100's of years ago for your crime rate. Black ppl have got to be some of the most racist ppl on earth, how in the hell can you justify an all black city and then call racisim? And maybe think about twice about living in a coastal city that is under sea level in the middle of a hurricane zone. I mean how dumb are you ppl? Yea I said "you ppl" its not racist , get over yourself.

Nobody "liberated" a plasma TV because grandpa had it rough. Why must some people continue to offer excuses for behavior which is inexcusable?
7 :
Racism goes both ways, and blacks are by far the most racist group of people ever.
8 :
the person that asked this question should do as much truthfully research on the negative effect of Integration of blacks versus the positive effect, crime has a black face look around and see , the race card is used when its to their favor, what minority does the majority of ill behavior, this can go on and on.its sad, other races don"t have this problem, the 9th ward was where crime was most active, to this day crime is being committed still at the 9tward and new orleans east just check out nola.com and read the news, I know I am a katrina evacuee lived in new orleans all my life.

Not everyone who died in the area was black. Are you forgetting St Bernard parish, which was mostly white? And there were many whites in the east and other areas.

Attorney appears to have stray path from the Lord, how to find attorney who is of strong Faith who can help

Attorney appears to have stray path from the Lord, how to find attorney who is of strong Faith who can help?
I recently had an inciden on an airplane route from Lexington to Memphis. A man who was seated in seat beside mine declined to pray with me in appreciated for Our Lord’s offer of food when flight attendant deliver â€Å“mid flight snack.” I told man obvious he must respect Our Lord and when he refuse and corrupt with way of devil unrepentant even I ask several times of him after he already begin eating not a single word of prayer, he refused. I defend Our Lord and punish man for his action with my hands to appropriate measure and he file lawsuit as assume directed him from the devil to perform. Attorney lies corrupt from devil that man is correct to file against me that I must plead guilty minimize charges, because attorney not of proper faith. How can find attorney who is of proper Faith to help understand that man deserve punishment for impure action with food with no thanking or prayer and no repent? Thank you.

I have 7-12 days to go anywhere! Where should I go? Suggestions?
I live in the Midwest and both my sweetheart and myself have an opportunity to travel together for anywhere between 7-12 days. Our original vacation plans fell thru. I just started my vacation today, Fri 11/02 and will not have to return to work until 11/20. I do not want to travel the entire time but a week to ten days would be ideal. We love roadtrips!!!!! It could involve a roadtrip only or a flight to somewhere and then road travels. Or simply a flight to somewhere fantastic. Some thoughts we had were to travel by plane to Vegas and then drive a rental across the desert toward California. I have been to 33 states but never the west coast. The prospect is exciting but does not dominate, as we are open to all ideas. Another idea was to drive down to Memphis and travel across the state of Tennessee ending up in the Smokies. East coast, west coast, north, south, we are ready for a serious adventure. Any ideas of a place to travel to and sights not to miss would be greatly welcome

First time flyer AND connecting in Atlanta

First time flyer AND connecting in Atlanta!!!!!?
Hopefully someone out there can give me a little idea of what to expect. Im flying out of Detroit Metro Via Delta, connecting in Atlanta and then onto my destination, Memphis. Same thing but reverse order coming back. Leaving Detroit is not what im worried about, its getting to Atlanta. I have a few questions. First off, as soon as im off the plane in Atlanta, will I have to claim my bags , and recheck them, or are they loaded onto the next plane for me? Also, any way to find out how far I will have to go to to get to my connecting flight? I have the flight #s but that is it...I know its a vague question but I know NOTHING about airports, especially a large one like ATLANTA..thanks

1 :
You won't need to pick up your bags in Atlanta. When you get to Atlanta, your goal is to get off the plane and head to the next gate where you will be departing from. Atlanta is a big airport. But it's not that bad. I've flown in and out of there many times. You will need to go down and take a tram. It's important that you know what gate you are coming into and then which gate you need to go. There are signs all over the place and computers so you shouldn't have anything to worry about. The only hassle can be trying to get where you need to go quickly. There's a lot of people there. But if you walk quickly and know what you need to do then you should be all set. I've had to move quickly to catch a connecting flight. (many times)
2 :
sahara is right
3 :
Are you sure you change planes? There are a lot of people there, so ask and make sure you don't miss your flight.
4 :
When you check your bags in Detroit, they will be checked all the way to your final destination - Memphis - so no worries there. Since you are on a domestic Delta flight (assume you will continue with Delta to Memphis), your departure gate will more than likely not be too far from your arrival gate. More than likely, you will receive both your boarding passes - to Atlanta and then to Memphis in Detroit. Often the terminal and gate number is already on the Atlanta to Memphis boarding card. If not, just ask the stewardness on your Detroit to ATL flight. If by chance, she doesn't know, check the departure screens when you arrive in ATL and/or ask a Delta service rep. Hope this helps. I've flown in and out of ATL for years and although the airport is large, it is fairly easy to get around. Have a good flight.
5 :
Atlanta is easy.... I have been through there many times - the thing that you have to watch out for is to make sure that the gate that you are going to is the correct one. ATL has a bad habit at switching the gates with hardly any notice. Your bags will be transferred to you connecting flight without the hassle of going to the baggage claim and rechecking them - if you had to do that you probably wouldn't make the connecting flight until the next day. Again your bags will go to the connecting flight. And as soon as you are on the ground - check to see where your connecting terminal is and get there fast - there is a tram/train system underneath - so if you have to use it - do so. Get there fast and make sure they haven't changed them on you. Good Luck - Kirk
6 :
Relax. This is not a big deal. 1. The bags will be loaded on to the plane going to Memphis for you. 2. If you know the flight number and the time the plane for Memphis leaves you will be able to see it on monitors in the airport. It will tell you which gate the flight will depart from. 3. Follow the signs to the gate. You may even have time between flights for lunch or a cocktail relax and enjoy your flight.
7 :
DELTA. Delayed Every Layover To Atlanta. Hopefully, you won't have a missed or cancelled flight. Otherwise, just check your bags in Detroit and pick them up in Atlanta. You'll more than likely deplane in Atlanta. They'll have monitors where you can find where your connecting flight is. If you need more help, you can always ask a gate agent or a customer service desk.

2 luggage questions

2 luggage questions...?
It's been a long time since I've flown, my daughter and her friends will be taking a trip soon. I've been having a slight argument with one of the fathers about what happens to your CHECKED luggage. here's the jist of it: they will be flying out of Salt Lake City then have a lay over in Memphis of 1 1/2 hours. final destination Philly. he says that in Memphis the girls will have to pick up there CHECKED luggage(like in baggage claim) and then go to their next flight to Philly. I say that they don't have to get their checked luggage, that in Salt Lake they will tag it to go all the way to Philly and the girls won't touch that luggage till they get to Philly. so who is right?? My second question is where online is the best place to find out what she can and can't take in her carry on bag. (i.e.. meds, electronics, etc) Thanks for any help you can give!!!

Ok first it depends on the airline and what there plan is it would be good to call and ask how the flight is dont be lazy. Ok second question go to http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#0 also just kinda think about dont bring like a knife or a gun. just like normal things.
2 :
No you don't have to pick up your bags in the baggage claim. Just make sure that when your child checks their luggage at the front desk that it says Philly on it. If the bags have the correct destination then the airport staff will take care of all checked luggage. The previous answer has the website for carry-on luggage facts. General rule is that all electronics are allowed, most meds if they are labeled, and a small amount of liquids (though if you have checked luggage you should just stick your liquids in that)

My neighbor is a drug dealer, what should I do

My neighbor is a drug dealer, what should I do?
I live in a very nice urban neighborhood in the heart of a major city. All the houses in my neighborhood are 1940's bungalows. The community was originally all white, however white flight took effect in the mid 70's and now the community is mostly African American, however since earlier this century, the community has gone through gentrification and now there are a number of white residents that have moved into the neighborhood. The neighborhood is desirable because of it's proximity to Downtown and that residents over the decades has kept the community up. I moved into the neighborhood three years ago and have not experience or observed or heard of any crime at all. On my street, most of the residents are retire senior citizens that are home all day and serve as my "security system" because they know everybody and seeks out strangers. However on of my elderly neighbors has a great grandson that I am at least 99% sure that sells drugs. He is about 21, does not work, he is home all the time and has no car. I grew up in the rough side of Memphis, Tennessee, so I know the signs of a drug dealer. I see random cars appear, he come out of his basement unit of his great grandmother's house, either gets in the car or goes to the driver window, spend about 2-3 minutes and goes back inside. I have seen this behavior for the past three years. He has a thug appearance, but seems harmless, he is handsome, I notice that he has a young son and a girlfriend that visits frequently. My fear is that one day, a drug deal with go bad and something can happen to his great grandmother, son, or even me since I live directly across the street. I really don't want to get involved. He has never bothered me. I really have no concrete proof, but I am not naive, I lived with drug dealers (my uncle and sister's ex) before and lived amongst others in my neighborhood in Memphis, so I know all the signs, I could become a DEA agent. What do you think I should do? First of all, I am not buying in drugs, secondly, the police would want proof, if I cannot provide proof, they cannot do anything. But I honestly don't think the implications would be I would be killed, that is being dramatic. Lastly, some of you people need to exercise your reading skills. OF COURSE you dont want anyone getting hurt.

You should call the police and report it without giving your name, just say you have witnessed strange things and describe what you just said...except I would leave out the completely unnecessary description of the neighborhood and its racial makeup.
21 :
Call the police
22 :
Keep your bloody nose out of other people affairs, you could some come back you really don't want. Those types of people don't take too kindly to grasses I bet your curtains are moving all day. Mind your own.......its not your place to get involved
23 :
1) Purchase some drugs 2) Don't do anything, it's better to mind your own business. Even if there is a witness protection program, he'll see your face and then names won't help. Furthermore, even if he goes to prison, he is still capable of sending someone else to harm you (god forbid). By the way, your question is excessively long.
24 :
Keep your mouth shut about it. Nobody likes a snitch. Specially drug dealers. And so what if he is a drug dealer? Like you said, he has done nothing to you so why would you want to piss him off? Im a drug dealer. Are you going to call the cops on me for it?
25 :
call the Narcotics Unit of Police department, and simply state that you have observed suspicious activity. Start taking down license plate numbers of cars driven by persons you suspect are purchasing drugs. good luck. Police need community involvement to combat crime. While recreational drug use in and of itself is harmless, drug profits are used to finance criminal enterprises, and eventually violence is a result.
26 :
First off, stop using stereotype shit about "thug" and races etc... that's a load of crap, anyone can be a damn drug dealer! now on to the real subject. If he isnt a high time drug dealer (a big boy) then cops will most likely not give a damn about him. They will use him as bait to get to his sources. Once this happens, he will want to find out who snitched on him, and which case, I wouldn't want to be around. nonetheless, you dont want it to continue on for the safety of yourself and your neighbors. If you're brave enough, I would talk to the cops and somehow get them to send and undercover in to buy drugs. I live next to a drug dealer, and the only reason I went to the cops was because they were smoking their weed when they had a little 3 year old and a 6 month old in the house with them... which I am very very against. The cops didnt do shit though. Took the guy to jail for 2 days, hes back out... smoking weed again with his kids... If you honestly fear for your safety then tell the cops......otherwise just leave it alone.

it deff is since the ticket alone is so expensive you are really getting your worth for your bucks no its not cheap of course but if you wanted to go to this place since your were 9 deff go!
2 :
hell fuc-n yeah its worth it
3 :
Since it includes airfare, accommodations, transportation and food, I'd say it's reasonable. If you are thinking you want to spend more time there, then you could pass on it and study abroad in Egypt when you go to college. Studying abroad for a summer, semester, or year will be cheaper for the amount of time you will spend there than this however, it's really up to you and your financial situation. If you want to be an Egyptologist, then I'd say you should study abroad in Egypt in college regardless of whether you do this or not.
4 :
Yes. I lived in Egypt for 20 years you can not beat the package. Bring sun block if you are going in the summer. Enjoy
5 :
Yes, it might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. check other rates though just in case
6 :
sounds like a good deal. Tours get better rates at hotels and transportation. see if its a 3 or 4 star hotel. check how much a flight is on expedia.com what will be the exchange rate for the dollar. will it cost you more like the euro does.
7 :
That would be actually less than the number you put. And if it is really that amount then absolutely yes!!!
8 :
It is worth it, and i'm not ONLY saying this because i'm an Egyptian and i love Egypt. I'm saying this because i have lived in Egypt, Loved Egypt, put Egypt in my heart and i haven't even gone to these places. Your so lucky to have this opportunity because to be honest some Egyptians that live in Egypt never even tried going to these places. it's going to be hot but trust me you will have the time of your life. since your already very interested to the point that you want to become an Egyptologist, i think you should go. your going to learn stuff that will just fascinate you. i mean i'm just reading this one book about Ancient Egypt called "Nefertiti" and i'm already astonished at the history! Also your 17 so you can work over the summer and help save up for some money that you can spend when you go there, that way your parents don't have to pay for the souvenirs and stuff.
9 :
definately it is good. im going for a 10 day trip soon and am paying just over $7000 canadian. but just a heads up on being an egyptologist, you need close to 8 years education, you can spend near a lifetime just doing all the dirty work for other egyptologists, you may never make a discovery, and the job demand in that area is VERY low. you may never even get a job to work in egypt. i dont know about you but i chose to keep it as a hobby because of all of that
10 :
You want the truth? It's Awesome and totally not a rip off.
11 :
get ur parents to pay for it, enjoy the trip and don't worry about money.
12 :
It is definitely a good price for all that is included. I just returned from a trip to Egypt, seeing all those sites, and only one more that I can think of: Abu Simbel in the far south. My trip was about 13 days and cost about twice as much. We did take the four night Nile cruise, did not have a train ride. I'd really recommend going if you are interested in Egypt. When at the pyramids in Giza, pay the extra small cost and go inside the middle pyramid. You will go up into the tomb room and can say that you have been inside a pyramid. Alarm clocks will not be necessary; you will be awakened by the calls to prayer before dawn each day! and don't try to cross a street in Cairo -- it's got the craziest traffic in the world. If you are going in the summer be prepared for hot weather! Enjoy!

Where should I live..Colorado or Tennessee

Where should I live..Colorado or Tennessee?
I'm getting advice from everyone. All friends and family, and of course myself. However, I'd like to hear what other people think. ~Right now, I live in Scotland. I came here to visit and I fly back to JFK (New York) in a week. But where do I go from NY is unknown. I technically have no home. So I have 2 choices. A. Go to Memphis. I have a grandmother there, and she says I can stay with her. I don't know if any of you have been to Memphis, but other than the food...nothing good comes out of there. And don't say Elvis, because he's from Mississippi. His house is in Memphis which is surrounded by the ghetto. B. Go to Colorado. I moved from Colorado to Scotland. I have no where to live in Colorado but I may have a chance at a really great job there. And we all know with the economy these days, it's very hard to get a job. I'd like to say I currently do have a job, that allows me to work from 'home'. But I want stability. I found a girl on Craigslist that is needing a roommate on April 1st. Now for $$$. I have $550 on me for my trip. Let's think it out. A flight to either CO or TN would be roughly $150-$200. Rent with the girl on April 1st is $350. A hostel would be $30 per night. I might be able to convince her to let me move in early. Let the comments flow in. .. Please and Thank you :)

2 :
For sure Colorado!!! There's sooo much to see and you can definitely enjoy plenty of all four seasons, besides in Memphis there's a lot of humidity and that is a bummer!!! You should try to live anywhere in Colorado, but if you like something cool I'd live near downtown Denver, maybe on Capitol Hill (area is bounded by Colfax Avenue, 7th Avenue, Broadway, and Downing Street) where rent is cheap and there are always things to do. Or if you like something more sophisticated, I'd lease a loft in LoDo(Lower Downtown), there's one I know and it's called The Boston Lofts(on 17th Street and Champa Street), it's right at the heart of it all !!! Well, there's always the Denver Westword where you can find roommates or cribs - above all good luck to you and hopefully you find that right place to live and laugh.
3 :
live in dtown, colorado
4 :
Colorado for sure. I mean if you honostly think that you can get a better job in Denver than in Memphis than move to Denver. I'm not saying Denver is a better city than Memphis cause in my opinion it isn't but you should move to the place where you can get the most money.

Delta Airlines Ticket Refund

Delta Airlines Ticket Refund?
So I booked a $773.98 ticket through Delta for my girlfriend to fly round trip to Canada from Memphis to pick up her dog. We spoke with 2 different representatives at Delta to make sure the 105 pound dog would be permitted to fly once before the flight was booked and again after the flight was booked. Once in Canada my girlfriend called for a third time to make sure everything was in place for him to fly home. NOPE!!!!!!!!! They said the dog weighed too much and that there was a 100 pound weight limit. They even have on file for her ticket that she would be returning with a 105 pound dog. The corporate office was very very rude in resolving the conflict. The ticket was purchased on false information given by delta. They say that there was nothing they could do. We have spent many many hours on the phone. My Girlfriend ended up "getting the return flight reimbursed" before her return trip. Then we just called up Delta to check on the status of the claim. Denied!!!!!! Because she flew the return trip. The ladies at corporate straight up lied, and are now denying that they said they would reimburse us for the return trip. It was made clear on the phone that the return flight was being reimbursed for her inconvenience with the knowledge that she would be actually flying that flight home. Any ideas?

why call the third time?? you should have just brought the dog, and they probably would have let you since the ticket said 105pd dog
2 :
If you have a local consumer affairs advocate where you live (they are usually affiliated with a TV station), contact them. Or Small Claims Court.
3 :
There's not much you can do. As the consumer, you are ultimately responsible with adhereing to the airlines rules. Their rules are available to the public on their website.
4 :
You can write and complain and the more detail you have the better. Write down the day and time you called and the representative's names of whom you spoke to. That would hopefully strengthen your case. However Delta can deny just as AJ mentioned because they do have rules and it is up to the passenger to adhere to the rules. If you are lucky, you may be able to get a small travel voucher. One time I flew with Delta and they broke the wheels off my luggage and would only give me a $25 travel voucher.

I have a 2 hour layover, what do I do

I have a 2 hour layover, what do I do?
I am trying to visit someone in Arkansas, and the only flight I could get was one with a long layover. I've flown before, but never had a layover, and I am freaking out because I worry more than I should, and I don't know what to do when I get to the second airport. I'm flying from Chicago IL, to Memphis TN, then to Fort Smith AR. I am deathly afraid of missing my flight, I already missed my flight yesterday, because there was a problem with my ticket and they had to issue me a new one, but it took too long. So, I'm just paranoid, and confused, what exactly do I do when I get to Memphis?
Air Travel - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Go to the gate for your next flight and wait. Two hours is not that long a layover. Bring a book to read.
2 :
When you get into Memphis just go straight to the gate where your next flight departs from. You should have plenty of time to get to the gate as long as the first flight is not delayed by too much. When you have found your gate for the connecting flight and you still have some time you can either stay there and read or walk around the area and maybe get yourself something to drink, go to the restroom or do some browsing in the shops there. Just keep your eye on the clock and you'll do just fine.
3 :
if you are going to memphis airport for 2 hours, you have time to grab a bite to eat, browse the shoppes, go to starbucks, read a book, etc. plus two hours is perfect becuase that will give you a little wiggle room if your first flight gets delayed (which happens). when that first plane lands, go to the monitors in the airport and see which gate your next plane departs from (what's written on your boarding pass may not be correct) walk around, grab a bite to eat or some coffee and about 45 minutes until you next plane departs, check the monitors and wait by the gate
4 :
First of all, calm down. Having a layover isn't a big deal, and Memphis isn't that big of an airport. Yes, it's a Delta/NWA hub but physically it's not as big as say Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, New York-JFK, etc. Just the American and United operations at Chicago-O'Hare are bigger than the entire Delta/NWA operation at Memphis. Two hours is plenty of time for a layover. Let's put it this way. I flew up to Memphis and back this past December to buy something for my wife for Christmas and I got there on Northwest, spent about 45 minutes shopping, and had to sit in the gate area for my Delta flight back for 30 minutes. And that included going out through security to the ticket counter to nose around out there for the heck of it and put myself on standby for the Delta flight. So two hours in Memphis is actually too much time, but it's better to have too much time than not enough. Just relax, you'll make the layover and have time to shop, eat, or whatever in MEM.
5 :
2 hours is not a long layover (I've had 6 hours on a few occasions). In that time you can perhaps grab a quick bite to eat, or just watch other planes land and takeoff while you wait for your connecting flight.

Flights to Negril Jamaica

Flights to Negril Jamaica?
Are there any direct flights to Negril from the states? I am flying out of Memphis. Am I going to have to fly into Montego Bay and then get on a shuttle bus to Negril? If so how do I do this. Do I just ask around the airport after landing or make reservations prior to flying in? Also are there any river trips around Negril? I have heard so many mixed things about Jamaica. Can someone settle it. Is it safe? Why do people say Jamaica sucks?

no flight s to negril only 2 airports here 1 in montego bay and 1 in kingston its easier and better to plan and arrange prior saves ur energy and hassle free for u once ur here ,, do hope u enjoy ur stay best wishes to u and safe travel
3 :
From Montego Bay there are short flights to Negril. Small plane lands on a small landing strip that you can look at via google earth. See link for info. Take the bus and start your party early is our advice. My bet is your bus is part of the package you bought. Do not want to ride a bus a taxi will cost about $60.00 USD for two ppl. I love yahoo search.... Jamaica is safe in places and not in others. You and all of us travelers need to go with open eyes and know we are RICH and there are people there that will steal from us if you give them the chance. Base out of a good resort, do not just wanter around with your rings and fancy watches and a big wallet or purse. The bus ride to Negril will give you an eye full of the hard life a lot of Jamaicans live. When you go, take school supplies. The better the kids learn the faster this will change. I have had long talks with Jamaicans there over the years and love the place. I am however well aware that I am a target and seen as The RIch One when out and about with my local friends.
4 :
Ja stinks, you will be sorry you went
5 :
We flew from Miami to Montego Bay, and our resort provided a shuttle from the airport to Negril at no extra cost. Are you staying at a resort? I would check with them first. If not, I would try to make an arrangement ahead of time. Check the Jamaica board on www.tripadvisor.com to find other people's recommendations for tour companies and even specific drivers. I didn't feel unsafe there at all. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Some of the vendors on the beach were a little too persistent, but that is their job. I wouldn't walk around flashing $100 bills or anything, just use common sense like you would anywhere else. I think on the US State department website (or something similar, I think you can find it if you google), there is a list of neighborhoods in a few cities that are recommended to avoid. I though the only thing that sucked about Jamaica was having to leave after only a week. :o)
6 :
If you plan on visiting Negril you will land at the airport in Montego Bay and yes you will take either a shuttle bus arranged by your resort or hotel, or you may need to or opt to take a taxi from the airport to Negril. It is an hour and a half drive to Negril from MoBay. If it's your first time to JA is suggest staying somewhere that provides you transportation to and from your hotel/resort. It is sometimes difficult for first timers to haggle with taxi drivers in JA if your not familiar with wha gwaan there. Once you land at the airport you will be approached by individuals who claim to be taxi drivers, however, if they do not have a red licence plate and have a JUTA (Jamaica Union of Travelers Association) sticker in the window they are NOT licensed taxi drivers and should be avoided. Like I said, to avoid any sort of awkward situation, just arrange a ride through your hotel/resort. Is Jamaica safe? Yes and No. Situations can arise anywhere you travel in the world if you are not aware of how things operate in any given city. If you plan on being in Negril then you have very little to worry about. Some areas of Jamaica have become increasingly hostile for many different reasons but as a tourist, the most you should be concerned with is being caught in compromising situations that arise from stupidty and little else. I have been traveling to the island for many many years and will continue to do so. I have made many dear, trustworthy friends on the island. That being said, people may say things like 'Jamaica sucks' or 'all I did was get hustled and asked for money' and so on. Look, times are hard for Jamaicans and they will do what they need to do to survive and provide for their families which includes peddling items or services, including drugs. To enjoy JA you will need an open mind and a warm heart but do not trust everyone you meet, just as in any other major city. Dont flash a bunch of cash around or wear expensive clothes/jewelry/shoes etc..you are not impressing anybody trust me. Also, get familiar with the exchange rate of the JA$ and convert your money at a cambio or currency exchange. Arrange tours and the like through your resort/hotel and take in as much Jamaican culture and cuisine as possible. If you're wondering about things to do in Negril its a simple google search away. Any other questions feel free to e-mail me personally. ONE LOVE!!

Northwest might have some deals because Memphis is a hub for them and since Los Angeles is a big city.
2 :
http://www.bookingbuddy.com because it will check all airlines on this route, as well as consolidators and and discounters which are sometimes cheaper for cross-country flights, all in 1 go so you don't have to keep searching over and over.

Taylor Durtschi and Taylor Young flew to Memphis last weekend. The distance between Salt Lake City and Memphils is approximately 1250miles. The non-stop flight took approximately four and a half hour(in the air). What was the average speed of their plane? Round answer to the nearest whole number.

Anyone Flown NWA recently

Anyone Flown NWA recently?
Recently I was on Northwest Airlines from Chicago to New Orleans. The first flight was delayed because the flaps on the plane were stuck down... 2 Hours later finally got to leave chicago. Then when i switched planes in Memphis I noticed that the plane appeared to be very old. The seats were obviously worn out to the point where the stitching was coming out. The windows looked to be scratched very badly and the plane was filthy dirty. On the way back to Chicago my flight was delayed because of an "equipment problem that was not disclosed". Now i am aware that Northwest Airlines is having trouble financially but these planes are not SAFE!!! These flights were on DC9 and CRJ equipment. Northwest really needs to retire the antique DC9 aircraft.

I'm flying Northwest for the first time tomorrow, Thank God it'll be a B757 and not one of their ancient DC9s, So fingers crossed!

NWA should stand for NWA should stand for ,'No Where Airlines'.On a resent flight they sat me next to aguy who smelled like he had an accident in his pants. I noticed that there were quite a few empty seats, so I moved to one of them. The flight attendant saw me move, and told me that was not allowed, and that I would stay in my assigned seat. I tried to as tactfully as I could, why I moved. I even asked if there was room in 1st class, and I would pay the difference. Sorry, no can do. In the meanwhile the passengers sitting in front and back of the smelly passenger, started to gripe. We said move us, or move him. We were told to go back to our seats, or she would call the captain. We told her fine! call him. She called him on the phone and talked for about five minutes and turned red (with anger) The captain told her to reassign our seats and just change our seat numbers on the flight manifest. If looks could kill, I would have been dead. .
4 :
How do you know these airplanes are unsafe? Do you have a powerplant and airframe license? You've got pukeing passengers, destructive vandal teens, and people who whine, complain and moan about everything- example- they over eat, so they blame the airlines when their size 50 butt won't fit in a standard 190 pound persons seat. Theres no excuse for dirty, however this is the summertime, every airplane that can be made safely to fly IS flying and I promise between August 31st, and November 15th, that airplane will be cleaned- usually professionally by a 3rd party vendor contractor.

Why Are Non-stop IAH to MEM Flights So Expensive

Why Are Non-stop IAH to MEM Flights So Expensive?
Within the past couple of months, non-stop flights between Houston's George Bush Intercontinental & Memphis have become outrageous - as much as $900 several weeks out. Flights out of Houston Hobby through Atlanta on Delta or Air Tran are much better priced. I am just curious if there is something driving the expensive given that Continental & Delta (Northwest) are in competition on the direct route. I can fly non-stop to most anywhere else for half the price. Rick: Thanks for wasting my time. The demand is non-existent from IAH - MEM. The flights are empty. Answer questions that you actually have an answer to. --- Dave3319: Yes, I'm looking at non-stop. Continental flies non-stop to most any destination for $300 or less. I fly weekly so I'm wondering what's specific to Memphis. --- Austin N: I live in Houston and am glad we have Continental as well. Per the above, its like suddenly Memphis has some outrageous airport fees or something.

2 :
I just typed some random dates into Expedia and found nonstop flights for $300 roundtrip on Delta. Are you trying to book a one way flight? Those are usually really expensive.
3 :
Well, Continental's main hub is at IAH, so normally they're cheaper than EVERYONE! But I typed in random dates on their website and am getting $500/roundtrip. Continental is a great airline, you should go with them either way! And, by the way, the longer you wait the more expensive the flight gets.
4 :
Memphis is one of the most expensive airports to fly in and out of in the nation because it is virtually dominated by 1 airline. Northwest, now delta, has a hub there and there are no discount airlines of any note except Airtran operating out of there. If you want to fly direct to or from Memphis from a city other than Atlanta, then you will pay through the nose because of the lack of competition. Many people in Memphis drive to Little Rock or Nashville and fly from there.

for this for airports

for this for airports?
I still dont know what determines which later flight you get rebooked when your flight is cancelled,w hat happens to the passengers of the cancelled flight if other flights are full. And also like if I was flying from manchester to PHili then to Phili to Phoenix nad the airport has many cancelled flights including to Phili and what if they rebook me on another Phili flihght and then to there the flights from Phili to Phoenix are full, what will happen. AGAIN WHAT HAPPENS TO customers half way in half of the line of which flight they get rebooked and how long will it be until they get on a flight IF I Miss my connection (final destination) in a transfer city, HOW LONG COULD I BE STUCK IN TEH AIRPORT AND WHAT IS THE LONGEST?? For these cities and airports? what is the traffic in Miami like??? is it Like Boston and Atlanta? what is the traffic in Los Angeles like? how come the Airport in Orlando is one of the top 20 busiest in the World??? how come the airport in Minneapolis is one the the busiest in the World? How did Atlanta surpass Chicago as number one for busiest airport? and what makes MEmphis the busiest for cargo traffic? which airports are the worst with flight delays and whhy are flight delays more common in these airports? what makes some airports discontinue destinations?

If a flight is canceled, the airlines will do their best to get you to your destination as quickly as possible. If you had to fly from Manchester to Phoenix with a connection in Philadelphia but the first leg of your trip is canceled, the airline may re-route you to their hub in Charlotte and then you fly to Phoenix from Charlotte. The airline may end up putting you on another airline such as United where you may connect in either Chicago or Washington D.C. Cancellations do happen but if you find out your flight is cancelled, immediately go to the ticket counter and ask for help. The sooner you get there, the better because then if others get in line before you, then they will be re-routed first and you get whatever seats are left which can mean a significant delay. Miami is a big hub for American Airlines. Lots of flights to the Caribbean and South America are from Miami. Boston is a hub for Delta, American and US Airways. Very busy airport especially in the morning because of business travelers. Atlanta is the headquarters for Delta Airlines but AirTran also has a hub there. Los Angeles is one of the most busy airports in the world. Lots of international airlines fly there. United, American, Southwest all have a lot of flights from this airport. Orlando has lots of flights because Delta, Southwest and US Airways have a decent presence there. Also lots of people fly there to get to Disney World. Minneapolis is a hub for Northwest Airlines. Atlanta surpassed Chicago because Delta probably increased the number of flights out of there. Many people avoid Chicago because they are known for delays and when bad weather hits, delays are even worse. Memphis is busy because FedEx is headquartered there and has lots of flights. Airports with the worst delays are in Chicago and New York. Delays are common there because sometimes weather-related. Also the airport sometimes schedules more aircraft movements than they can handle. Airlines discontinue service to destinations. Not airports. Airlines will do that if the demand is not there and they are not making money on the route. Sometimes demographics change and people stop flying to a certain place. Airlines will look at the routes they are flying and evaluate whether or not service needs to be discontinued, increase or decreased. Sometimes another airline will enter the market and slash fares so the first airline flying that route ends up pulling out of that service.

"IF I Miss my connection (final destination) in a transfer city, HOW LONG COULD I BE STUCK IN TEH AIRPORT AND WHAT IS THE LONGEST??" Also unanswerable. Thewre is no "longest." "and what makes MEmphis the busiest for cargo traffic?" FedEx. "which airports are the worst with flight delays and whhy are flight delays more common in these airports?" Among the worst are O'Hare (winter storms, thunderstorns in summer, and just plain too busy,) LaGuardia (limited runways, much traffic,) San Francisco (parallel runways are too close together to use both in bad weather.) what makes some airports discontinue destinations? Airports don't. Aiorlines do. And they do because they've decided they won't make money flying there.

Will one airline piggyback on another when reassigning people who have missed their connecting flights

Will one airline piggyback on another when reassigning people who have missed their connecting flights?
So I'm flying out west with a layover in Memphis--where I've never been, and I really want to see Graceland. The layover's only 30 minutes, so there's a good chance I'll miss the connection on account of, you know, being me. Now, if my airline carrier (Northwest) only reassigns people onto other Northwest flights, I'm gold--the flight after mine won't leave for hours, and I'll have time to get out of the airport. But if airlines do things like ask other carriers, 'hey, will you take my passenger,' then I'm screwed. Anyone know which way it works? Thanks :)
Air Travel - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It depends on a few factors : 1). First and foremost - check your ticket. Most of the times, you are going to have to pay to get onto the next flight (not the full fare, but a small fee). 2). The loads on the next flight - if the next flight is full then you are probably going to get bumped to the next available flight. Which could equate to you being there for quite some time. 3). What other airlines operate the route - for the most part, airlines try to avoid using other airlines to get their passengers to their destiantions. But, if the other fligh out tends to be another codeshare partner (such as an alliance partner, or a flight operated on behalf of the mainline carrier) then you have a better chance of being put on that flight rather than waiting. So - if you your scheduled flight - go to a gate/check-in agent and explain your sittutation. You are probably going to have to pay a fee, but explain that you are in no hurry to hop on the next plane. More often that not - you are going to be put onto the same airline's next flight to your destinaton. It is uncommon to be put onto another airline, but I have seen it done.
2 :
When it's the airline's fault that you missed your connecting flight, they will first ask you if you will be able to take their next flight out to your destination, as they want to keep your business. Sometimes, though, they may not have another flight out that day, or their next flight might be in 10 hours, which might not be acceptable to you if you're in a hurry. If waiting is not an option, they will then have to try to find another carrier (with a flight leaving sooner) on which to "endorse" your ticket. You will be transferred to that airline, at your original airline's expense, even if there's a difference in fare. They will print out a new boarding pass for you and you'll fly with the new airline. For example, on my way home to Washington D.C. from a vacation in India, my plane was delayed in India by two hours due to technical difficulties. When I arrived in London, where I had my layover, by the time I cleared security, my connecting flight to D.C. had already left. This was, of course, my airline's fault, so I went to Customer Service and explained what had happened. British Airways then offered me a flight the next day, with an overnight stay in London at their expense, but I had to get back immediately so I declined. They then told me that Virgin Atlantic had a flight available that departed in two hours so I accepted that and they endorsed my ticket on Virgin. I wasn't asked to pay anything and I boarded the flight and got home on time :) Good luck!
3 :
If you purposely miss your connection because you left the airport to visit Graceland the airline doesn't have to do a thing for you. If you miss your connection because your flight was delayed and you couldn't make your connection in time, then, yes, the airline will find a way to get you to your final destination either on a later flight or another airline. My advice is to resist the temptation to see Graceland and make sure you get to your connecting flight. Why risk not getting to your final destination when you can visit Graceland another time?

You can read, listen to music, do crossword puzzles, etc.
2 :
Load lots of music on your ipod and take your own headset. Watch movies. Take some puzzles eg. book on Sudoku. Talk to your seatmate.....you often meet very interesting people on long flights. If they're boring then just excuse yourself and listen to your music.
3 :
You will be able to watch movies, many movies and eat (I'm sure there will be TWO meals)...I'd take a good book with me (go check a few out at the library so if you find one dull/boring you can try the next). I usually buy a magazine or two but I do sleep on planes...I get about 3 hours on an 11 hour flight cause it's not too comfortable but again I try. Some flights have video games and tv shows (The Simpsons, Friends, etc.) that you can watch as well. Oh and try and walk around the plane every few hours...I love walking around and looking out the windows. Enjoy it!

How come Chicago didn't get a hint when they checked the luggage of the two that were arrested in Amsterdam

How come Chicago didn't get a hint when they checked the luggage of the two that were arrested in Amsterdam?
Those items were an empty shampoo bottle with watches attached to it and an empty bottle of a stomach medicine with mobile phones attached, according to the U.S. law enforcement source, who has been briefed on the investigation. That has raised concern that the men may have been testing a future terrorist plot, the source said. Attempts to sneak liquid explosives aboard jetliners were at the heart of a 2006 plot broken up by British authorities. That case led U.S. authorities to ban all but small quantities of liquids from aircraft cabins. U.S. law enforcement officials told CNN that the checked bags contained knives and box cutters as well. Passengers have been banned from carrying those items on aircraft since the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington. The source identified the men aboard United Airlines Flight 908, from Chicago, Illinois, to Amsterdam, as Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al-Soofi and Hezem al-Murisi. Al-Soofi began his trip by boarding a flight in Birmingham, Alabama, and al-Murisi originally flew from Memphis, Tennessee, the law enforcement source said. http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/08/30/netherlands.airport.arrests/?hpt=T1#fbid=7MGqzrlTZTN&wom=false Nahhhh we can't profile those who carry that kind of stuff after all we have to be political correct and not profile any with a Muslim name right??

The problem is, first you have a Government like ours that's afraid of its own shadow, everything must be done in a way that is nice. Second, you have our law enforcement that's supposed to do its job while their hands are tied. It is much better according to politicians to be PC than it is to do things right and keep people safe.
